Forked River is an unicorporated area located within Lacey Township in Ocean County, New Jersey. Many Ocean County residents commonly refer to all of Lacey Township as Forked River with the first word pronounced with two syllables (FOR-ked or FORK-ed).

Lacey is approximately 84 square miles and also includes the areas of Lanoka Harbor and Bamber Lakes. Lacey Township is rich with natural resources, open space, and plentiful waterfront properties which are popular home choices for boating and fishing enthusiasts.

Residents enjoy a quiet Jersey Shore life style while being very close to major shopping centers in nearby Toms River. Lacey Township is approximately 37 miles from Atlantic City, 60 miles from New York City, and 53 miles from Philadelphia. You will find it only a short drive to both the beautiful beaches on Long Beach Island and the many attractions in Seaside.

Founded in 1871, Lacey was named for the Revolutionary War General John Lacey, who built the Ferrago Furnace, a large iron forge in Bamber Lake which brought prosperity to the town. As of the U.S. 2000 Census, the population was 25,346.
